SEAN LAWRIE WINS SCOTTISH ALLIANCE TITLE

By ALAN GREENSHIELDS

Sean Lawrie (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre), nephew of Paul,  is the new Scottish Golfers' Alliance champion and winner of The Scotsman Trophy.
He beat Marc Owenson (Gullane) with a birdie 4 at the first hole of a sudden-death play-off after they had tied on 209 at the end of the regulation 54 holes over the Dalmahoy Hotel East and West courses.

It was a solid performance by Sean, carding a second 70 on the testing par 73 course together with 69 on the par 68 West Course on Day 2.
Marc has to be commended in following his opening round of 77 on the East Course with blistering rounds of 64 on the West on Day 2 and 68 on the East on the final day.
Sean certainly met this challenge with birdies on the 17th and 18th on the final round to force a play-off and a third birdie in a row at the extra hole got the job done.

On the Amateur front it was tussle between Hazlehead's John Nicolson and Kingsknowe's Andy Rowe to see who would claim the top prizes in scratch and handicap.
Nicolson (pictured on left receiving trophy from Alan Greenshields) secured the Clydesdale Bank Quaich and top scratch prize with a total of 221, one shot ahead of Andy Rowe. However, Andy has consolation of gaining top handicap prize with a net 54-hole total of  213, two shots ahead of John.
On Day 2 the Senior prizes were concluded with Norman Dyce (Strathmore) winning the Caldwell Trophy with a gross total of 150 (80 over the East and 70 over the West), two strokes ahead of Neil McGarva (Kilmalcolm).
Senior Handicap prize over 36 holes went to 14-handicapper Neish Chisholm (Kemnay) on net 140 (76-64), one shot ahead of Richard Denning (Inverurie) (77-64 for 141), playing off 13.
The team trophy - the Mountbatten Cup for the leading Alliance district (top six gross aggregate) - was won by the East of Scotland team of  Marc Owenson, Neil Henderson, Michael Bacigalupo, Andy Rowe, Donny Munro and Stuart McMehen.

Next October the North-east will host the Scottish Alliance Championship over three days at Porthlethen Golf Club.
