New member Toby Bailey wins Bernard Gallacher prize at Newbattle with a net 65

EDINBURGH AND EAST OF SCOTLAND ALLIANCE REPORT
Second outing of season and a very warm welcome received at Newbattle Golf Club by the 60 East Alliance members playing the par 69 (34-35) course with the early starters rushing to the tee from the Scotland rugby match on TV.
It's been a few years since the East Alliance visited the course which was in great shape despite the recent weather around. Quite
a few visiting for first time and very much enjoyed the day.
Duddingston members took top prizes in both Scratch and Handicap.
Toby Bailey, a new member this year, secured the Bernard Gallacher Trophy and top handicap prize (voucher value £60) with a impressive net 65 (70 less 5), also holding onto top scratch score for a spell.
Next on the handicap front was Mortonhall's Scott Fraser who earned a £40 voucher with a  net 67 (71 less 4) and third was another new member, David Eardley of Broomieknowe, on net 68 (77 less 9) which earned him a £25 voucher
On the scratch front it ended up a close run thing with Duddingston pro James Dick taking top prize, a £60 voucher, with a two-under-par 67 (32-35). He was closely followed by pros Ian Anderson (Shotts) and Norman Huguet (Musselburgh) who shared second prize on the 68 mark and earned vouchers to the value of £32.50 each
On the Senior front, net 71s from stalwart Willie Laing (Prestonfield)  (80 less 9) and Brain Thomson (Kilspindie) (76 less 5) shared the top prize, receiving vouchers to the value of £12.50 each.
Next week it is off to East Lothian to Royal Musselburgh where
the Andrew Oldcorn Trophy will be contested.
