BOLTON LEADS BY THREE AT HALFWAY IN SCOTTISH

MEN'S OPEN AT THE DUKE'S COURSE, ST ANDREWS

By CAMERON McLAY
Overnight leader Jake Bolton continued his fine run of form on day two of the Scottish Men’s Open Championship at  The Duke’s course, St Andrews.
Backing up a seven-under par opening round of 64, Bolton carded a 68 on Saturday to take a three-shot lead after 36 holes.
A member at Ogbourne Downs Golf Club in Wiltshire, Bolton opened his second-round campaign with his only bogey blemish of the day but a birdie on the fourth hole would set the tone for the rest of his round, with three more birdies coming on the back nine to give the Englishman a three-shot A
After his round, Bolton said, “It was another solid day really, I didn’t get off to the best start by hitting my drive into the gorse on the first, but I was able to make a good bogey.
"Walking to the second tee, I told myself to stay calm and I managed to do that from there on really. I hit an approach to 11 feet on the second and that continued for the rest of the round which was positive.”
Looking ahead to Sunday'ss final two rounds at The Duke’s, Bolton added, “I just want to enjoy being in the position again having been in it once already in the US this season. The plan is just to stick to my own game plan and hopefully continue my good play. We will see what happens tomorrow.”
Matthew Clark also remained out in front as the top Scot on day two. A one-under round of 70 sees the Kilmacolm member sitting tied for third. Fellow Scot Alasdair McDougall was one of the biggest movers on Day 2. His eight-under par round of 63 was 11 shots better than his opening round, helping him climb 40 spots up the leaderboard.
McDougall, who sits just one back from Clark on five-under par going into the closing two rounds,     said, “It was a great round, one of those ones where I just put it in position off the tee and was really dialled in with my irons. The putter was hot as well as it needs to be to shoot a good score.
“I will definitely be hoping for more of the same tomorrow, my game plan is to just go and play with freedom and enjoy it.”
Scot Mark Napier was also among the biggest movers on Day 2 with a five-under par round helping the Turnhouse member climb 35 places. Napier goes into the last day of action in a tie for 10th place.  Following the halfway  cut, the top 40 players and ties will play two rounds of stroke play at The Duke’s on Sunday.
