PERTH GOLF DAY FUND-RAISER

AT CRAIGIE HILL ON FRIDAY, JULY 12

By GORDON BANNERMAN

THE Barrie Douglas Foundation Golf Day is teed-up for Craigie Hill on Friday, July 12.
It’s one of the key fund-raisers for a Foundation dedicated to supporting youth development across a range of sports in memory of the well-known Perth businessman who passed away after taking ill while captaining the 2017 Scottish boys' golf team at the European Team Championships in Spain.
The sell-out event is again being supported by the GS Group.
Managing director George Stubbs, a long-time friend of the Scottish Boys and a GB and I selector, said: “It is an honour to be closely involved in the Foundation set-up in Barrie’s memory.
“In the first year, the Foundation supported youth projects at St Johnstone, Perthshire Rugby Club and Perth and Kinross County Golf.
“All three were close to Barrie’s heart and he was a mentor to many young Scottish golfers.
“The Foundation has teamed-up with similar charities set-up by top professionals Stephen Gallacher and Paul Lawrie for junior golf’s ‘Race to the Machrie’ in Islay.
“As a company the GS Group is delighted to be playing our part in encouraging the next generation of young sporting talent.”
Foundation trustee Charlie Gallagher said: “Businesses like the GS Group have been very supportive of the work of the Foundation.
“Once again the Golf Day sold out very quickly. The challenge now is for one of the teams to claim the trophy won by the GS Group last summer!”
