Murrayfield man Ni wins North of Scotland open amateur title by five shots after leader Simmonds slumps

Lothians player Andrew Ni (Murrayfield) scored possibly the best win of his career todate when he triumphed by five clear strokes with an eight-under-par total of 280 in the North of Scotland open amateur stroke-play championship at Nairn Dunbar over Saturday and Sunday.
Ni, a student at New Mexico University, has been making a name for himself on the US college golf circuit. Now he has carried that form with him back home and up to Nairn.
Another Lothians competitor Tom Simmonds made most of the running, leading by seven shots after 36 holes and by five after the third round.
But Simmonds, who had set a cracking pace with a pair of 67s, slumped to a final round of six-over-par 78 and was one of five players who shared second place on 285.
