All the Scottish boys' U16 Open championship tee times
Preview: Scottish Boys’ U16 Open Championship at Royal Burgess GS
A 144-strong international field will tee it up at this year’s Scottish boys’ U16 open championship which gets underway tomorrow (Tuesday). The three-day event will be hosted by Royal Burgess Golfing Society, Edinburgh between Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th July 2019.
The format of the event will be three rounds of stroke-play with the top-60 and ties after the first two rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday progressing to Thursday’s final round. Cameron Adam, who is a member at Royal Burgess, goes into this week as the highest-ranked player in the field with a handicap of +1.6.
Adam was recently part of the successful Scottish boys’ team who won the 2019 U16 boys' quadrangular tournament earlier in the year.
Joining Adam in this week’s field are two of his Scottish team-mates from that week; Old Ranfurly’s Aidan O’Hagan and Blairgowrie’s Cormac Sharpe. Having tasted team success at Troon back in April, the three Scots will be striving for individual glory this week.
From an international perspective, last year’s runner-up, Martin Couvra of France, will be looking to go one better than 2018 when he was beaten to the title by Italy’s Matteo Cristoni.
There are more than 10 countries represented in this year’s field. The last Scots to pick up the title were Nairn’s Calum Scott in 2017 and Old Ranfurly’s Jamie Stewart in 2015.
This week’s venue, Royal Burgess Golfing Society, is widely considered to be one of the oldest golf club in the world, having been formed in 1735. Other recent events held at the venue include the 2015 Scottish boys' stroke-play championship and the 2017 Scottish senior men’s open stroke-play championship.
