Black and Laird win NE Under-18 and

Under-14 titles at Craibstone

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Cameron Black (Royal Aberdeen), left, and Fraser Laird (Kemnay), right, won the North-east boys' Under-18 and Under-14 match-play titles respectively on another warm and sunny day at Craibstone Golf Club, Bucksburn  today (FRIDAY)

Two-handicapper Black, two over par at the finish, beat Jason Bruce (Deeside) by 4 and 3 after being one up at the turn in the U18s final.
Laird beat left-hander Scott Spark (Newmachar) by two holes in the Under-14s final. Spark led in the early stages when both players had two birdies.
Laird took a grip of the match when he won the 10th and 12th, lost the 13th but clinched victory by winning the 18th for a two-hole winning margin. He was level par for the round.
+The Paul Lawrie Foundation has supported/sponsored the NE boys' championships for many years.
++The North-east District of the SGU is keen to get more boys - and girls - playing in the NE junior championships, so look out for some innovative moves for the 2020 event: a handicap section perhaps for starters. Watch this space.
