Barrie Edmond equals Jack Booth record by winning Aberdeen Links title for a fifth time
By DEREK JOHNSTONE
Barrie Edmond equalled Jack Booth’s record of five Aberdeen Links Championship wins when he defeated Bon Accord clubmate Matty Dunn by 8 and 7 in today’s final at the Kings Links.
In driving rain and a cold wind, Edmond immediately took control of the match when his par figures were sufficient to win the first two holes. A birdie at the sixth, followed by winning pars at 7, 8 and 9 saw Edmond reach the turn six up.
Further pars on 10 and 11 saw Edmond close the match with a 8 and 7 victory.
In the Handicap Shield final , Lee Amos (Caledonian) reached the turn one up against Roy Pirie (Caledonian) and doubled his lead by winning the 15th. However, Pirie showed admirable self-belief by winning the last three holes with par figures to achieve an unexpected one-hole victory.
In the Murray Cup final, Alan Pirie (Northern) found himself three up after only five holes with winning pars on 2, 4 and 5. Butler pulled one back at the sixth but further pars on 8 and 9 saw Pirie reach the turn four up - a lead he would retain until the match’s conclusion on the 15th green.
