The Biltmore Hotel, Miami celebrates reopening of its fully restored Donald Ross Golf Course
Historic Coral Gables hotel unveils restored golf course following $30 million investment
30 January 2019The Biltmore Hotel, Miami has unveiled its extensive restoration of the historic golf course, part of a $30 million project which began in 2017. The Donald Ross Golf Course has been fully restored, alongside a full hotel renovation, including the redesign of the hotel’s guest rooms, corridors, main lobby, its luxurious Spa and fitness club.

“It is our vision through this restoration that the resort shall remain a premier golf destination for years to come, and thus we are steadfast in our commitment to preserving the course while simultaneously paying tribute to a piece of our national history.” said Gene Prescott, President and CEO of The Biltmore Hotel.

Drawing inspiration from the original plans drafted by Donald Ross in 1925 and overseen by veteran golf course architect Brian Silva, the project is a game-changer to the layout of the 18-hole, par-71 course. Improvements include new Bermuda grass on the existing tees, fairways and greens, new bunkers, enhanced short-game practice as well as separate range areas, challenging signature holes, and an extended overall course length to over 7,100 yards; elevating its status to championship level play.

“We sought to bring back Ross’ original characteristics of play, which has a great deal of movement, and the result is a spectacular course that will maintain the playing interests of an accomplished golfer while also being manageable for all levels of players to enjoy.” said Silva.

The golf course is now being considered as a potential host site for future PGA Tour Championship events and is currently home to the University of Miami Women’s golf team and the NCAA Hurricane invitational. This month also sees the renowned Jim McLean Golf School mark its one-year anniversary at the hotel and the golf course will celebrate its 55th consecutive year of hosting the annual Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship.

The Jim McLean Golf School offers a variety of golf instruction experiences, including corporate clinics, junior programs, private lessons and multi-day golf schools. Since its inception in 1991, the school has firmly established itself as the #1 Golf School in America. From the world-class professionals they hire, to the state-of-the-art teaching facility, and to the ever-increasing base of satisfied customers, members of the JMGS team are relentless in the pursuit of excellence.
