PHIL McLEAN WINS NE ALLIANCE AT BALLATER WITH A 66
Peterhead's Phil McLean came storming home in four-under-par 31 to win the North-east Golfers' Alliance Ron Menzies Memorial Scratch trophy with a four-under 66 at Ballater Golf Club today (Wed).
McLean, only a shot ahead of runner-up Lee Buck (Peterculter) after nine holes, having reached the turn in par 35, fired a clutch of late birdies to finish three strokes clear of a field of 89 competitors from which there were 14 No Returns.
Lee Back's net 66 was removed from Division 1 handicap first place as his second place scratch score of 69 gave him a larger prize (£100 compared with £75). He did, however, still win the Ron Menzies Trophy as the lowest net score in Division 1 with a net 66, which beats David Fleming (Portlethen) (net 68 off six) and David McLean (Kemnay) (net 68 off six)
G Gibson (Kemnay), with a net 67 off nine, won the Ron Menzies Memorial Class 2 handicap trophy by three strokes.
