It's that man McIntosh again - Leven Gold

Medal repeat win after play-off v Johnston

Scottish amateur champion Euan McIntosh (Turnhouse), 50 on his next birthday, continued his astonishing comeback from the doldrums of a pro golf career, by winning the Leven Gold Medal 72-hole tournament for the second year in a row today.

The Edinburgh man, pictured, the 1992 Scottish assistants champion who spent several years out of the game before seeking reinstatement as an amateur, had to play one extra hole to do it … but he birdied it to beat third-round leader Jim Johnston (Ayr Belleisle) , the Ayrshire stroke-play champion and Tennant Cup winner this year, in sudden-death play-off after they had tied on seven-under-par 277.
McIntosh trailed Johnston by two strokes after the third round but closed the gap with a fourth-round score of 68 to his rival's 70.
McIntosh birdied the third, fifth and eighth in an outward 33 and then birdied the 13th and 14th in an inward half of 35.
Johnston had a bogey at the seventh and an eagle 3 at the 13th in closing halves of 35.
Jeff Wright (Forres) finished third, four shots behind the leading pair, after leading at halfway following excellent rounds of 68 and 65. He reached the turn in 27 with seven birdies in that second round. But he was undone by two triple bogey 7s, both at the fourth hole, in both the third AND fourth rounds.
McIntosh had been joint third at halfway  on 138 - five behind leader Wright and two behind Johnston.
McIntosh, Johnston and Wright were the only players to finish with sub-par aggregates
