James Wilson wins Welsh open stroke-play after play-off

James Wilson (Balmore), pictured, opted to play in the Welsh men's open stroke-play championship instead of the North-east District Open at the weekend - and he won it at the first hole of a play-off against Tom Sloman (Taunton and Pickeridge) at Pyle and Kenfig on the South Wales coastline.
They had tied after 72 holes on level par 284, Wilson with rounds of 70, 72, 72 and 70, Sloman with 71, 73, 71 and 68.
That means Scots hold both the Welsh amateur open stroke-play titles as Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) won the women's championship at Aberdovey earlier in the season, also after a play-off (she beat Sophie Lamb at the first extra hole).
