Shannon improves but Hannah misses European cut

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Hazel MacGarvie (Troon Ladies) slipped  out of the leading 20 at the European women's amateur championship at Penati Resort, Slovakia with a third-round 72 for a 54-hole tally of 215 which gave her an overnight position of joint 21st going into the final round.
But Curtis Cup player Shannon McWilliam from Aboyne improved 28 places to joint 40th with a 70 for 220. Her earlier rounds were 71 and 79.
Spain's Celia Barquin shot a brilliant course-record round of nine-under-par 63 to take the lead on 13-under 203.
Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) was among those who failed to qualify for the final 18 holes. To beat the cut, a player had to have scored 222 or better. McCook totalled 233 (81-79-73.
