Recalling John Panton's 62 at Forfar in May 1961
FROM DAVID MILLER, Milngavie
Reading of Paul O'Hara's score of 63 at Forfar brought back memories.
The Scottish professional championship was held there in 1961, and I have a copy of the late John Panton's scorecard for May 17, 1961, when he holed out in 62. In those days, the course measured just 5727 yards. The winner was Bobby Walker, who also won at Machrihanish in 1964.
Younger readers may not know of R T (Bobby) Walker, a local prodigy who at the age of 14 broke the Downfield course record with a 63.
