Scottish senior men's open amateur championship

Anglo Reid and Partridge take lead from Brotherston at Irvine Bogside

By COLIN FARQUHARSON

Anglo-Scott Malcolm Reid (Sonning) and Englishman Richard Partridge (Wildernesse) share the lead on two-over 146, a shot ahead of the first-round pacemaker, Ian Brotherston (Dumfries and County) with one round to play in the Scottish senior men's open amateur championship at Irvine Bogside Golf Club.
Reading-based Reid, picture by courtesy of Steve Ellis,  shaved six shots off his opening score of 76, thanks to an eagle 3 at the second and birdies at the seventh, 11th, 13th and 14th in halves of 37-33. He dropped shots at the first, third, fourth and eighth.
Partridge improved from a Wednesday 75 to a 71. He too had an eagle 3 on hs card, at the 11th. He also birdied the second and eighth, shedding shots to par at the first, ninth and 12th in halves of 37-34.
Brotherston is by no means out of the hunt with rounds of 70 and 77 for 147. But for a double bogey 6 at the 14th in halves of 37-40, the Doonhamer would still have been in the pole position and he will be doing his best to recover it over the final 18 holes.
