Shepherd and Hammer first-round leaders at British Student championships at Woodhall Spa

Stirling's Laird Shepherd and Michael Lawrie are in first and second places after the first round of the 72-hole British Student golf championships at Woodhall Spa Golf Club.
Shepherd (pictured), the Scottish students' champion, shot a four-under-par 69 and Lawrie a 70 with Matthew Myers (St Andrews) in third place with a 72.
The men's field will be cut to the leading 27 players after the third round
Alexa Hammer (St Andrews) leads the women's event with an excellent round of  five-under 68, three shots ahead of  Scotland full international Gemma Batty (Stirling) with another Stirling student, Chloe Goadby from St Andrews) in third place on 72.
The women's field will be cut to the leading nine players after the third round.
