Crail Golfing Society targets the next generation

NEWS RELEASE
Crail Golfing Society may be one of the oldest golf clubs in the world, but its eyes are firmly fixed on the future.
Like many golf clubs, Crail has a fairly high proportion of more mature golfers and is acutely aware of the need to bring younger people into the game.
Two major initiatives are proving successful in this regard.
The club has introduced a special membership deal aimed at golfers between the age of 18 and 30. Full details are on the club website but with the entry fee cut by more than 50% to £200 and an attractive annual subscription of £131 for 18-25 year olds and £196 for 25-29 year olds, there’s great value golf available at Crail.
Pam Smith, captain of Crail Golfing Society, said “We know that a lot of young people can find the cost of golf club membership challenging and to make it easier for them we’ve introduced a special rate to encourage people who may have been active juniors to stay in the sport.
"To date, as with all our membership categories the deal has proven to be pretty successful and we hope as word spreads more under 30’s will come along to Crail Golfing Society”.
April saw the launch of this year’s Junior golf coaching programme, Crail Golf Academy, organised and led by club assistant professional David Snodgrass. On Tuesday evenings David and his group of volunteers  run coaching sessions for 50 juniors, covering all aspects of the game.
“Golf is a great sport for youngsters to get into and good teaching from the beginning can lead to a lifetime of enjoyment, said David. “in addition to learning the right skills, our programme also encourages positive social behaviour with the post-practice juice, crisps and chat in the clubhouse just as important.
"We are fully subscribed for this season and are delighted to see our Juniors going on to be active participants in the wider golf club”
