NEWS RELEASE
Fans in the San Diego area of California interested in watching the conclusion of the Farmers Insurance Open needed to remain glued to their televisions Monday morning just like the rest of the United States.

Jason Day and Alex Noren are deadlocked at Torrey Pines, with their sudden-death playoff set to resume with a sixth extra hole at 11 a.m. ET. But the finish won't be available for public consumption, because tournament officials have opted to close the conclusion of the tournament to the public.
"Given the security and operational realities necessary to ensure the safety of both fans and PGA Tour players alike, the Century Club of San Diego, in conjunction with the PGA Tour, has closed the competition to the general public for the Monday finish of the Farmers Insurance Open," read a statement from Peter Ripa, tournament CEO.

Torrey Pines is a public golf course, and it was home to one of the most famous Monday playoffs in golf history when Tiger Woods defeated Rocco Mediate in the 2008 U.S. Open. More recently, fans were allowed on the grounds to watch Woods win in a non-playoff Monday finish at the 2013 Farmers after the tournament was delayed because of fog.
The 2016 edition of the event finished on Monday because of inclement weather, and that conclusion was closed to fans because gusty winds were still forecast to reach up to 35 mph. Storms the previous day had forced parts of the course to be evacuated, and Brandt Snedeker ultimately won the event without hitting a shot during Monday's finish.
"While not unprecedented, a Monday finish nevertheless presents unique logistical challenges," Ripa continued. "With that said, we have successfully secured the necessary operational and security-related resources in order to finish this now 77-plus hole championship, including 12 PGA Tour-trained marshals to maintain minimum playing standards for a PGA Tour event."
Golf Channel will air the resumption of play live at 11 a.m. ET and continue until a winner is crowned.
