PAUL LAWRIE AND CHRIS ROBB JOINT WINNERS AT OLDMELDRUM

Paul Lawrie (Gleneagles) and Chris Robb (Meldrum House) earned £145 each for jointly heading a field of 103 - the second highest of the North-east Golfers' Alliance season - with four-under-par 66s at Oldmeldrum Golf Club today (Wednesday).

They arrived at the same totals, 33 both ways, by contrasting routes.

"I played beautifully, except for the putting. I had six birdies and two bogeys (at the 16th and 18th) but I should have had a lot more birdies. I just couldn't hole any putts," said Lawrie who drove the fourth and fifth greens but three-putted them both for pars.

Robb, pictured, a former Scottish amateur champion from Banchory, was one of the few players who relished the soft greens.

"I holed quite a few putts today, the longest probably the 25-footer at the 10th."

Robb, who will return to the Pro Golf Tour in Egypt in January, had seven birdies - at the second, fourth, fifth, seventh, 10th, 14th and 15th offset by bogeys at the sixth, 13th and 18th.

Paul Lawrie's nephew Sean earned third prize of £100 with a 68 which included three birdies and only one bogey, at the 12th.

Sean's cousin, Craig Lawrie finished fourth with a 68 to earn £80. A double bogey 5 at short 17th cost him third place.

Kris Nicol (Dunes Golf Centre) earned £60 for fifth place with a par 70.
There were 15 No Returns.
