With the outcome of the Presidents Cup no longer in doubt, the lone bit of lingering suspense may be whether or not President Donald Trump makes an appearance at Liberty National Golf Club before the event concludes.
Trump was named as an honorary chairman for the event in July, and PGA Tour officials extended an invitation for the Commander-in-Chief to attend. The tournament kicked off under the watchful eye of former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, all of whom were on-site Thursday for the opening matches.
Military helicopters were seen attempting what appeared to be practice takeoffs and landings near Liberty National Friday evening, and commissioner Jay Monahan confirmed that the Tour was in talks with the White House over a possible appearance.

“His people have been out and taken a good, hard look at the property and worked closely with our team,” Monahan said Tuesday. “We are thinking that he is going to come out, but he has not yet confirmed, and we don’t know timing or all the underlying details.”
The U.S. leads the tournament, 14 ½ to 3 ½, and needs only one full point to clinch what would be their seventh straight victory in the biennial event.
