Scottish Seniors Order of Merit goes to the wire
By ALASDAIR MACGREGOR
The Scottish Seniors Golfing Society Order of Merit title
will be decided on Friday (September 15) at Blairgowrie. The top 30 players in the Order of Merit
table after the Autumn meeting play in the final counting event over the Lansdowne course.
After 10 counting events, only three points separate the top
two. Last year’s winner, Graham Bell
(Downfield), leads on 793pts with Stewart Henderson (Hamilton) on
790. Nick Robson (Meldrum House) is in
third place on 753.
Although it
will be one of these three players who wins the title, the other players at
Blairgowrie can have a say in the final result.
Points are awarded to the top 20 players. Bell, Henderson and Robson will play together
in the last group on Finals day.
The Order of merit is sponsored by McCrea Financial Services
Ltd (www.mccreafs.co.uk)
Friday's Blairgowrie event is also the last chance for SSGS members to
score a hole in one and win an electric golf trolley. German manufacturer JuCad, donated a top of
the range electric trolley as a prize for a hole in scored at any SSGS event in
the 2017 season.
At the moment there are
two players whose names will go into the draw for the prize. Wilson Morton (Dunbar) had a hole in one at
the first event of the season, the Spring meeting at Monifieth, and Alan White
(Newton Stewart) had a hole in one at the West of Scotland open at West
Kilbride.
JuCad trolleys are very popular in Europe , but less well
known in the UK. Auchterlonies of St
Andrews recently became an agent for JuCad trolleys. More information can be found at www.jucad.de
