Matthew Clark tames the wind to win Edward
Trophy for second time at Gailes
By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm) turned in a brilliant wind-taming display to win Glasgow Golf Club's 36-hole Edward Trophy at the Gailes' links course in Ayrshire on Sunday.
In almost gale-force conditions, Clark returned scores of 71 and 69 for a total of two-under-par 140 on a day when the CSS was 77 for the first round and 75 for the second.
Winner of the Edward Trophy for the first time in 2013, Clark, pictured, headed a field on this occasion by seven strokes from Kieran Cantley (Liberton) (75-72) with Brendan McKenna (Pollok) (77-72) and Nicky Gold (Bonnyton) (74-75) joint third on 149.
Last year's winner, Craig Ross (Kirkhill) finished joint fifth on 150 with rounds of 81 and 69, the second round equalling Clark's second round as the tournament low score.
Former Scottish amateur champion Barry Hume (Haggs Castle) was among the No returns.
+It is believed that the late Charlie Green is the only other player to hold the Edward Trophy and Tennant Trophy at the same time.
