Duncan McNeill makes top 30 in David Toms
Intercollegiate at Baton Rouge
Duncan
McNeill from Annan, a student at McNeese State University, improved
with a final-round 74 to finish T26 in a field of 77 players at the
David Toms Intercollegiate at the University Club, Baton Rouge,
Louisiana today (USA time).
Duncan's
earlier rounds in the 54-hole event over a par-72 course of 7,220 yds
were 74 and 80. In his final round, the Scot had birdies at the fourth,
10th, 14th and 17th but a double bogey 6 at the 18th in halves of 37.
Team-mate Tom Atkins from Poole finished T50 on 237 (78-81-78).
An
unusual quadruple "dead-heat" for first place, featuring four Louisiana
State University players: Brandon Pierce (66-76-73), N
Eric Ricard (71-75-69), Luis Gagne (73-69-73) and Sam Burns (72-76-67), all on one-under-par 215.
Not
surprisingly, Louisiana State won the team title by the comfortable
margin of 35 strokes from second-placed North Texas with McNeese State
(891) third and South Alabama (897) fourth in a field of 14 teams.

Campbell and Maxwell share first prize with 72s in Big Johnson's Tour Championship
REPORT FROM JOHN HENRY
Our Big Johnson's Tour Championship was held at the 2017 Scottish Open venue of Dundonald Links.
With the sun splitting
the fairways and a slight puff of wind, we couldn't have got any better
conditions for scoring, but as proven many times during hosting the first
stage of the European Tour Qualifying School, Dundonald is a tough old beast.
The
best scores
of the day came from Ryan Campbell and Steven Maxwell, both shooting
level par 72 to share first prize
None of the players managed to pick up enough points
to overtake our Order of Merit No.1 Paul Lawrie who wins a Bridge Golf
Scotland - Big Johnson's Tour bag!
We would like to thank
Dundonald Links for hosting us today. The course was in superb condition
and the food before and after the round was superb too!

Danny Willett and caddie win Dunhill Links Team Championship
ST ANDREWS - Jonathan Smart admitted his hands were shaking as he stood over the four foot putt that was to earn him and Masters champion Danny Willett the US$50,000 first prize in the Alfred Dunhill Links Team Championship at St Andrews.
Willett, who usually has Smart as his caddie in every other week of the golfing year, raised his arms in triumph when the putt dropped and then hugged him, saying later: “Jon rose to the occasion and carried me all week. I invited him to have a taste of what it’s like on my side of things and he’s won his first event. He played some great golf.”
Smart, a six-handicapper from Sheffield’s Hallamshire Golf Club, holed the decisive putt on the Old Course’s 9th green for a birdie three and said: “That’s the best golf I’ve ever played today and Danny is over the moon for me. But I won’t be getting any percentage of the winnings – he’s already done more than enough for me this week by giving me this treat of playing in such a great event as his amateur partner. It’s been an unbelievable experience.”
Willett and Smart started the final day on 26-under-par and shot a 12-under-par round of 60 for a total of 38-under 250 to clinch the title by one stroke from Polish professional Adrian Meronk and his Swedish amateur partner John Eliasch.
Meronk and Eliasch had started out with a three-shot lead over Willett and Smart but were gradually hauled in by the English pair, who sported matching beige trousers with maroon tops. Playing together in a four-ball, the two teams were tied on 37-under-par when they teed off at their final hole, the 9th. Smart’s birdie blow then decided a titanic struggle.
“It was a real match-play situation for 18 holes,” added Smart. “Those guys kept coming at us. It has been an amazing week for me and I cannot believe that we’ve won. But I’ve definitely experienced a little of the nerves that Danny has to cope with in every tournament. Now I’ll appreciate what he’s got to go through a little bit more. It’s been a real insight and so enjoyable.
“On that last hole my hands were shaking when I was trying to line the ball up. When you're telling someone what to do, it's a lot simpler than having to do it yourself. It has all been just very surreal. I could not believe how nervous I was coming down those last few holes. And to win an event with Dan, here, has just been unreal.”
Willett, who missed the cut in the individual tournament, added: “It's been great fun. I've obviously not played great golf myself. I showed a few bits every now and again but luckily that's what this format is for us as a team, dovetailing well, which we did.”
Cricket legend Sir Ian Botham, playing with English professional David Horsey, and Fifty Shades of Grey actor Jamie Dornan, who played with individual winner Tyrrell Hatton, were among the three teams who shared fourth place in the team competition.
Aboyne teenager Shannon McWilliam tied for ninth with Swedish pro Joakim Lagergren.

Hatton's first European Tour win - four-shot victor in Dunhill Links Championship
FROM EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Tyrrell
Hatton sealed his maiden European Tour title today, worth 711,673 euros, firing seven
birdies and a solitary bogey to claim a four-shot victory at the Alfred
Dunhill Links Championship.
The
Englishman produced a stunning third-round 62 to equal the course
record at St Andrews on Saturday, setting up with a healthy three shot
lead, before posting an impressive final round 66 at the Old Course to
finish on 23 under par.
Fellow
countryman Ross Fisher and South Africa's Richard Sterne finished in a
tie for second on 19 under, with Swede Joakim Lagergren two strokes
back, one shot ahead of Scot Marc Warren on 16 under.
Warren earned 180,897 euros
Warren earned 180,897 euros
Hatton
got off to a strong start in the final round, the 24 year old rolling
in his birdie putt from six feet at the third before draining a 25-foot
putt at the next to pick up another shot. He dropped one shot for the
day at the 17th, but was able to steady and coolly sink his par putt at
the last to seal victory.
Master’s
champion Danny Willett and his caddie Jonathan Smart won the Team
Championship at 38 under-par 250, one stroke better than runners-up Adrian Meronk and Johan Eliasc
Marc Warren and Martin Gilbert tied for ninth place on 31-under-par 257 with Joakim Lagergren and Aboyne teenager Shannon McWilliam

Player quotes:
Tyrrell Hatton: “It feels amazing. I've wanted this moment since I was a six-year-old walking around Wentworth. It's incredible.”
“I
was quite nervous for the majority of the round but I played really
solidly today and holed some good putts, and that kept the momentum going.
That was key to winning this week.
“It makes it special and to do it at the Home of Golf is fantastic. Hopefully I can have a good end to the year now.”
“One
of my goals was to get inside the Top-50 in the world. I think I was
53rd coming into this week, and I look forward to hearing from my
manager John. He sends me a message every Monday morning when the World
Rankings come out of what position I am. So I look forward to that text
tomorrow, and hopefully I can have a great end to the year and try and
climb even higher.”
Ross Fisher:
“It was always going to be tough. Starting the day three behind I think
I was, I needed to put pressure on Tyrrell but unfortunately my game is
just not quite as solid as the first three days. Obviously a pleasure
to witness a good friend's first victory and what a place to do it.
“It's
been two really good weeks consecutively, so a lot of momentum, a lot
of positives, and yeah, just taking it one tournament at a time.”
Richard Sterne:
I tried my best to put some pressure on Tyrrell but he got off to a
good start and kept it going, which is good. It's a big win and it's
going to be a special win for him here at the Old Course.
“I
was quite relaxed. I putted really nicely and that was the difference.
The last few weeks, I really putted decently and made the par saves at
the right time and a couple good birdie putts. I was hitting the ball
nicely and consistent, which obviously helps to give me more birdie
putts.”
Danny Willett: “It's
been great fun. You don't see it from that perspective a lot,
especially John, he's a lot more from the other side and to be under
pressure and him to be able to hole a putt, it's a complete different
role. I'm glad we've had the week we've had. It's been brilliant.”

VALENTINE, Nebraska - After a hard-fought last round, Mizzou (Missouri University) Men's Golf came away from The Jackrabbit Invitational as team runners-up, nearly downing No. 13 Clemson on the final day at The Prairie Club.
Trailing Clemson by seven strokes going into the third round of play on the Dunes Course, head coach Mark Leroux's group mounted a tremendous comeback, tying the leaders with just six holes to go.
Led by final-year student Euan Walker (pictured) from Troon, Scotland and his strong play, the Tigers eventually yielded to Clemson down the home stretch to come up just short of winning a second consecutive team trophy to start the USA college season.
The tight team finish was sparked by a handful of great individual Mizzou performances, especially by Walker. Coming off a Turning Stone tournament, in which he tied for the team lead and nabbed a third-place overall finish, it seemed improbable that Walker would better himself at the Jackrabbit.
But the Scot from Ayrshire did just that, shooting a 7-under-par tournament score of 209 (68-71-70) for a new college career low. Walker's play marked the first time in his career that he shot every round in the same tournament under-par.
He again paced Mizzou's traveling roster, and his second-place overall finish at the Jackrabbit matches his career best. With two quality showings under his belt this season, Walker's talent is on full display.
Though he competed as an unattached individual, freshman Rory Franssen (pictured) from Inverness put on a very good show. He tied for eighth overall at three-under-par (68-71-74 -- 213). His round of 68 was the lowest of his young college career, and tied Walker for the lowest single round shot by any Tiger at the event.
Franssen finished inside the top-10 for the first time in his US college career, even though his score was not counted to Mizzou's final team score. Like Ullestad, Franssen has been a very effective plug-and-play option for Leroux.
The tournament was originally scheduled for three days, but was shortened to two days after extreme winds forced play to be called off on the Sunday.
The Tigers are back in action at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Jonesborough, Tennessee, from Oct. 14-16, hosted by East Tennessee State..
TOP TEN USA FINISH BY SCOTTISH CHAMPION GEORGE DUNCAN
Scottish
amateur golf champion George Duncan from Dunbartonshire, a final-year student at Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, Tennessee had a top 10 finish in a field of 90
players at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, Ocean Ridge, Sunset Beach
in North Carolina.
Over
a par 72 course of 7,020yd, Duncan, pictured on the day he won the Scottish title at Balgownie, had rounds of 71 and 73 for a level
par total of 144 and a tied ninth finish, six shots behind the joint
winners, both from Duke University, Alex Marlari (67-71) and Shrish Dwivedi (70-68).
Another Lincoln Memorial University student, Ray Gordon from Alford finished joint 29th on 150 with rounds of 74 and 76
Another student from the North-east, Torphins' Craig Stephen (Brevard College) finished tied 75th on 156 with a pair of 78s.
Duncan and Gordon's efforts, plus those of English team-mate, Sam Broadhurst (72-70 for 142) from Nuneaton, who finished sixth, helped Lincoln Memorial win the team title with a total of 583, three ahead of joint runners-up Belmont Abbey College, Coker College and Lenoir-Rhyne University
Brevard College (604) finished eighth in a field of 15 teams.
McNeill 12 shots off the pace at Baton Rouge
Duncan McNeill from Annan, a second-year student at McNeese State University, Lake Charles, Louisiana is in joint 39th place in a field of 78 with one day to go in the David Toms Intercollegiate tournament at University Club, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
McNeill, pictured below, has had rounds of 74 and 80 for 154 over a par-72 course of 7,220yd.
Team-mate Tom Atkins from Poole has shot 78-81 for 159.
Louisiana State students are dominating the tournament with three of them sharing the lead on level par 142 - Brandon Pierce (66-76), Louis Gagne (73-69) and Nathan Jeansonne (70-72).

Jay Haas, 62, shoots 8-under 63 for 5-stroke lead in Toshiba Classic
- Associated Press
At 62 years, 10 months, 7 days on Sunday, Haas would fall short of only Mike Fetchick, the 1985 Hilton Head Seniors Invitational winner at 63 years to the day. Gary Player is No. 2 on the list at 62 years, 9 months, 22 days in the 1998 Northville Long Island Classic.
"I don't know what's gotten into me other than -- and I've always said the ball doesn't know how old you are or what your name is or anything like that -- if you hit a good shot, it goes right down the middle and on the green and in the hole," Haas said.
"So, I'm not trying to think about being old or anything like that. I feel good, I feel positive with my swing. I'm not doing it with smoke and mirrors."
Haas missed a chance to shoot his age when his eagle try to 18 stopped short.
"I knew that, yeah," he said. "It was great to even have an opportunity to do that. Obviously, when I was over the putt, I did not think that."
The 2007 winner at Newport Beach Country Club, Haas has played 36 holes without a bogey. He shot a 64 on Friday for a share of the first-round lead with Billy Mayfair.
"I was feeling solid on the greens and so I was somewhat aggressive and had some nice chances to even get lower, but obviously I made some nice putts, too," Haas said.
"Maybe, probably 18 feet at No. 4 and then probably 25 feet at No. 5. Those two were not stealing, but you don't expect to make those a lot of times."
Haas won the last of his 17 senior titles in 2014. He won nine times on the US PGA Tour and captained the United States' winning Presidents Cup team last year in South Korea.
He birdied three of the final four holes, starting the run on the par-5 15th and adding two more on the par-3 17th and par-5 18th to reach 15-under 127.
Fred Funk, at age 60, was second after a 65. He eagled the 15th and birdied 18.
"I fully expect any of these guys from behind to shoot 62 or 3, and I'm going to have to keep playing hard as I can," Haas said. "Hopefully, I'll have a chance coming down the last few holes."
John Daly shot a 66 to top the group at 9 under. After birdieing the final five holes Friday in a 67, Daly opened birdie-birdie-eagle. He bogeyed the par-3 eighth and birdied the two late par 5s, playing through a left shoulder injury.
"Basically, one-handed the last six holes," Daly said. "Hopefully, get some ice on it and get the swelling down."
Daly is making his 14th senior start since turning 50 in April. The two-time major champion has three top-20 finishes on the tour, the best a tie for 11th in July in the Dick's Sporting Goods Open.
Grant Waite (65), Ian Woosnam (66), Doug Garwood (66), Billy Andrade (6) and Bart Bryant (6) also were 9 under.
"I'm going to have to shoot 64 to have a chance," Woosnam said.
Defending champion Duffy Waldorf was tied for 14th at 7 under after a 68. Mayfair, making his sixth start on the tour after turning 50 in August, had a 76 to drop into a tie for 45th at 2 under.

Curtis Luck wins Asia-Pacific Amateur title -
and a second invite to the Masters
INCHEON, South Korea -- Curtis Luck overcame a seven-stroke deficit to win the Asia-Pacific Amateur on Sunday and earn a Masters invitation that the Australian didn't need.
Already in the Masters with his U.S. Amateur victory, Luck made a 15-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th for a 5-under 67 and a one-stroke victory over countryman Brett Coletta.
Luck finished at 12-under 276 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club. He also earned a spot in the British Amateur and he and Coletta got positions in the Open qualifying series.
Coletta, the third-round leader, had a chance to force a playoff on 18, but missed a 14-foot birdie try. He had two double bogeys in a 75.
New Zealand's Luke Toomey was third at 9 under after a 66.
Australia's Cameron Davis, a stroke ahead of Luck and Coletta with four holes to play, closed bogey-bogey-birdie-triple bogey for a 77 that left him fourth at 7 under.
Second last year in Hong Kong in the rain-shortened tournament, Davis was coming off a strong performance two weeks ago in Mexico where he teamed with Luck to lead Australia to victory in the World Amateur Team Championship and topped the individual standings.
The tournament is run by the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation, the Masters and The R and A.
