Joost Luiten will carry the hopes of the Netherlands nation into the weekend of the KLM Open after the flying Dutchman posted the lowest round of the week at his home course The Dutch at Spijk to move within one stroke of the lead. With a huge home crowd roaring him on, Luiten produced a sparkling seven-under-par 64 in perfect conditions to charge up the leaderboard and lie just one stroke behind his playing partner Bernd Wiesberger, who carded a second round 66 for a ten under total. Luiten is joined in a tie for second place by Italy’s Nino Bertasio and Englishman Mark Foster, with the English duo of Ben Evans and Tommy Fleetwood a further stroke back alongside Spain’s Alejandro Cañizares. But then I managed to make a few putts after that and got in position and felt comfortable again. I hit more fairways today and I feel good and the game is in good shape, especially on the greens as I am rolling the ball better on the greens. “It was a special day playing with Joost in front of these great crowds. It was so good to see so many people out there. I need to take it one shot at a time but I am in exactly the position I want to be going into the weekend.
