The James Erskine South of Scotland Order of Merit reached
its conclusion at the last of the 11 counting events, the Shamash Trophy
at Brighouse Bay.
Martim McNae (Lochmaben), by virtue of
his second place finish, consolidated his lead to win
his first Order of Merit title.
He showed his prowess over a variety of links and parkland
courses in Dumfries and Galloway by winning stroke play competitions at
Portpatrick (JAL Brown Trophy) and Dumfries and County (Brotherston Trophy)
and the Dumfries-shire match-play at Lochmaben.
In addition he had four second place finishes and also a third and fourth, despite an operation in
the spring from which he did not regain full fitness until the end of June.
David Brodie (Wigtown and Bladnoch), last year’s winner,
chased Martin all the way and did not give up his title easily.
In third place was Chris Corbett (Dumfries and Galloway)
The tournament was sponsored by James Erskine, professional at Dumfries and County Golf Club.
