Home win for young Renfrewshire team
RENFREWSHIRE GOLF UNION PRESS RELEASE
With
a number of regular players involved in other tournaments, Renfrewshire Golf
Union had to select four boys who had never represented the county previously
for the home game at Ranfurly Castle Golf Club.
The
first of those, Jack Crawford from Mearns Castle, was three down with three to
play and showed great courage and skill to fight back for a halved game.
Elderslie’s Jorg Irving then put points on
the board with a solid two hole win and Fraser Lawrie (Lochwinnoch) showed no
first time nerves as he overcame Strathendrick’s David Hood 5 and 4.
With
one of the team not showing up, due to travel problems, giving a walk over to
Stirlingshire, the performance of the new recruits eased the worries of the
management team and these were further dispelled as the more regular team
members did what was required. A special
mention for Tom Mackenzie of East Renfrewshire who is unbeaten this season and
for Darragh Cuddihy who beat Stirlingshire’s top player comfortably.
With
an away draw and a win already achieved, Renfrewshire is starting to have
aspirations of the West of Scotland title and will entertain Ayrshire at
Greenock on July 5.
