WALES OPEN REPORT AND ALL THE SCORES

FLYING DUTCHMAN LUITEN LEADS BY

TWO STROKES  AFTER A 65

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
A late birdie burst enabled Joost Luiten to open up a two-shot lead heading into the final round of the ISPS HANDA Wales Open.
The Flying Dutchman started and finished his third round of 65 in some style, notching three birdies in his first five holes and closing with another three in his final four holes to climb to 14 under par.
His nearest rival on 12 under par is Irishman Shane Lowry, who also got off to a strong start but was unable to add to his three birdies on the front nine.
Third place is shared between Frenchman Grégory Havret and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee, who posted respective rounds of 66 and 67 to move to 11 under par, one shot ahead of Italian Edoardo Molinari.
Ryder Cup man Jamie Donaldson still has an outside chance of delivering a home victory after his round of 68 moved the Welshman to eight under par.
Key quotes
Joost Luiten
“I’m very happy, it’s a good score. I played solid, and hit a lot of greens. I had some nice putts to start with in the beginning, then didn’t really make a lot in the middle part, but came back strong at the end with three birdies on the last four.
“You just have to be patient on the greens here. You have to try to create chances on every hole and hope they will go in eventually, and luckily they did for me at the end.”
Shane Lowry
“I got off to a flyer, but after that nothing really happened for me. I made three good par saves, but I would have liked to make a couple more birdies. I probably should have – I didn’t really hole many putts out there today, except for the first few holes. But I’m right where I want to be for tomorrow, and I’m looking forward to it.”
