EUROPEAN TOUR Q SCHOOL STAGE 1 ELIMINATOR

CHRIS ROBB HAS 69 BUT HE NEEDED IT

ON HOT DAY AT FRILFORD HEATH

Scottish amateur champion Chris Robb (Meldrum House) from Banchory made a good start with a three-under-par 69 in the first round of the European Tour Q School Stage 1 competition at Frilford Heath Golf Club, Abingdon in Oxfordshire.
Robb birdied four of the first six holes and added two more on the inward half, at the 12th and 18th in halves of 34 and 35.
Scoring was particularly low at this venue with a 66 by Welshman Mark Laskey leading  and six players sharing second place on 68, pushing Robb down to a share of eighth place by the end of the day.
Fellow Scots Jay Taylor and Magnus Eilertsen had rounds of 77 and 79 respectively.
There is no indication just how many will go forward to Stage 2 in Spain at the end of 72 holes but it is generally between 13 to 15 players.
