Why did only one pro play in this year's Buchan Firkin at Fraserburgh?

Commenting on Iain Taylor's E-mail stating the Buchan Firkin entry fee of £40 was excessive, if you look at most of the clubs in the Buchan area and see how much a single round of golf costs at the weekend and add on the cost of soup and sandwiches, I think £40 for 36 holes AND soup and sandwiches is good value for money.
In my opinion  a couple of reasons pros might not be attending the Buchan Firkin  are

SLOW PLAY. Two rounds of golf taking around 10 hours to complete is a long time to be out on the course on a cold wet day ( thankfully weather was great this year) 
And as many of the local pros have shops to run this means paying staff a day's wages to cover the shop in their absence.
PRO-AMS.  It may be the the case that the pros have plenty of other Tartan Tour competitions, some with order of merit points, and the cost of playing in tournaments maybe makes the pros more selective in where they play,

Which is a pity. Being a Broch loon,  growing up playing in the Firkin was a magic feeling just to qualify for it. Sadly that magic feeling seems to be lost now.
