ROCHESTER, Michigan - Sean Burgess will join the Oakland men's golf program for the 2014-15 season, announced head coach Russ Cunningham.
Burgess, a native of Nairn, Scotland, led South Mountain Community College to a national championship in 2013.
"Sean knows how to shoot low scores and he brings a wealth of competitive experience, which combined with his leadership qualities, will make an immediate impact," said Cunningham.
Burgess shot 8-over-par at the NJCAA Division II national championship as the Cougars finished at 13-under-par to capture the title by 29 shots. He garnered Ping All-America Honorable Mention honors as a sophomore.
Burgess earned all-region accolades during his freshman season and was named to the All-Freshman Team.
At Dobson Ranch Golf Course, Burgess fired a career-best 7-under-par 65 in Mesa, Arizona. His junior career includes several victories, including the North of Scotland boys' championship for the R P B Bain Trophy with rounds of 65 and 68. His 65 was a course record. He also won the Paul Lawrie Junior Jug tournament and played successfully for the North of Scotland boys' team
