RENFREWSHIRE'S ROSS ROBERTSON NAMED IN SCOTLAND U16 SQUAD
Ross Robertson, a
member of Old Ranfurly Golf Club, was 14 years old when he won the Renfrewshire
Golf Union’s junior stroke-play championship last May at Caldwell Golf Club.
Given that his opposition was aged up to 18
years old with a lot more experience of tournament play, it was evident that
Ross (pictured) is a special talent.
During the rest
of his 2012 season, his performances remained impressive and included winning
his club’s junior championship and success at two junior open tournaments. Now 15 and coached by George Boswell at Mearns Castle
Golf Academy
as one of the Scottish
Golf Union
Academy squad, his record
has been recognised by the Scottish selectors.
Ross has been
named as a member of the team which will represent Scotland
at the under 16 Quadrangular Event to be held at Southerndown Golf Club in Wales in late
March. The competing countries are Holland, Ireland,
Wales and Scotland.
The Gryffe High
School pupil, whose handicap is 3, is delighted
with his selection and, weather permitting, will continue to work on his game
so that he is ready for the event.
Renfrewshire Golf Union President, Ian McCosh
said “It is great that Ross’s performance last season has been spotted by the
selectors and this will be an inspiration to the other Renfrewshire boys in the
coaching squads. We wish him all the
best when the time comes”
