PLANNING PROCESS FOR TRUMPS' SECOND SCOTTISH LINKS COURSE UNDERWAY
MEDIA RELEASE
Just seven months after the launch
of Donald J. Trump’s championship links golf course in Aberdeen, preliminary
plans have now been submitted for a second golf course at Menie Estate. Named “The Mary MacLeod Course” after Trump’s
Scottish-born mother, the second golf course occupies several hundred acres and
forms part of the £750 million resort located along the dramatic North-east
coast of Aberdeenshire.
The first stage of the detailed application
process with Aberdeenshire Council has now begun with the submission of
indicative plans for the new course to the southern side of the site.
Designed by Dr Martin Hawtree, the 18-hole course will complement the first and provide even greater capacity for
golfers, tournaments and events at the estate.
Mr Trump (pictured above by Cal Carson Golf Agency hitting the first ball at the July 2012 opening of the first course, will be visiting the North-east of Scotland in April to
open the second season of his championship links course. He said:
"Once
again Martin Hawtree’s design is genius - we have the greatest piece of links
land in the world and the unprecedented demand to play our championship course
has accelerated our plans to build the second course .
Sarah Malone, Executive Vice
President for Trump International Golf Links, Scotland stated:
"Our plans for the second golf course are
moving forward rapidly and we’re delighted to reveal the indicative
lay-out. We are more committed than ever
to creating the greatest golf destination in the world.
"Following the launch of our championship
course last year, Aberdeenshire is now considered a must-visit destination for
golf. The addition of a second course
will further strengthen this."
Commenting on the second course, Dr
Martin Hawtree said:
"I am excited at the
opportunity of developing a second course for Mr Trump. At the centre there will be an outstanding
Par 72 golf course, ranging between 7 and ½ thousand yards and 5 ½ thousand
yards (so fit for all tastes and calibres), situated on land with an
extraordinary richness of landscape and topography; but every inch a seaside
links course.
"The special and subtle challenge for me is to ensure that it sits
comfortably beside its majestic neighbour, neither outshone by the existing course
nor making any attempt to mimic or rival those Leviathan qualities."
The Mary MacLeod Course
The second course forms part of the £750 million golf resort
which has outline planning permission granted by ministers on December 2008. Dr
Martin Hawtree was chosen to design the second course, after the successful
completion of the adjacent championship golf course which opened to the public
in July 2012.
Championship Golf
Course
During its first season, Trump International Golf Links,
Scotland welcomed over 10,000 golfers to play its championship links
course. The short first season saw
bookings escalate beyond expectations.
Visitors flew in from around the world from more than 20 nations,
including Canada, Argentina, China and across Europe and countless states in
America.
Compared to this time last year, bookings are up by 55%,
with around 10,000 golfers scheduled to play the course already. Increased bookings from tour operators,
travel agents, gift voucher sales, on-line pay-and-play tee-time reservations
and tailor-made corporate golf days and events have all contributed to this
rise.
