ROOKIE PRO PAUL SHIELDS MISSES CUT IN ARIZONA
Glasgow's Paul Shields has started a five-week trip to the United States by missing the 36-hole cut in this week's All-American Professional Tour event over the Persimmon course at Anthem Golf and Country Club, Arizona.
Shields had a pair of 74s for four-over-par 148. To make it through to the final round he would have had to shoot par 144 or better.
After a distinguished career as an amateur, the Kirkhill man has turned professional and will be coming home in time to play in the PGA EuroPro Tour Qualifying School.
Back in Arizona, three Americans are sharing the lead in the $100,000 event - Scott Gordon (70-66), Andre Metzer (69-67) and Scott Harrison (68-68) - all eight-under 136
They lead by one from two more Americans, Lucas Delgado (69-68) and Brock Mackenzie (70-67) who sounds as if his forefathers came over from Scotland. The entry fee to this event was $1,000 but it attracted 159 entries.
