PGA OPENS GOLF ACADEMY AT CHINA'S MISSION HILLS
NEWS RELEASE FROM THE PGA
The PGA has established a branded golf academy at China’s world famous Mission Hills Golf Resort.
PGA Chief Executive Sandy Jones officially opened the PGA Golf Academy at Mission Hills, Dongguan.
The agreement with Mission Hills reflects the PGA’s strategy to grow its brand in the growing Asian golf market and will further enhance the status of the increasing numbers of PGA members employed in the region.
With China the fastest growing nation in the world where it is reported that 20 million golfers are set to be playing the game in 20 years, increasing opportunities are expected to open up for PGA professionals whose skill and expertise will be in wide demand.
Already more than 1,600 PGA members are employed overseas in 70 plus countries with many working in the Far East.
Jones, who was joined at the official opening by Dr Kyle Phillpots, PGA Director of Education and Career Development, believes the agreement with Mission Hills marks a significant step for the PGA and its membership.
“Asia is increasingly becoming a business hub with increasing opportunities for PGA members, especially in China,” he said.
“This is a unique opportunity to work with the leading golf resort in China to promote the PGA brand and the qualities and values of our members.”
Mission Hills executive director, Iain Roberts, a PGA Fellow Professional, emphasised Mission Hills’ delight at the agreement.
“The exciting element is the growth of golf in China. Historically PGA professionals have travelled the world to promote and grow the game and China offers another fantastic opportunity for members,” he said.
“Mission Hills has a reputation for doing things properly and the PGA has always produced the best trained and educated professionals in the world.
“Part of this agreement is about helping China to move quickly to cope with the incredible growth in golf.
“This is a partnership between Mission Hills and the PGA. Mission Hills always want to work with the best and this is a great opportunity for both parties.
Winner of multiple international awards, the 20-square kilometre golf complex features twelve 18-hole resort and championship courses designed by golf's greatest legends and architects.
Mission Hills is the cradle of golf in China and hosts the region's most important tournaments including the World Cup of Golf and the Asian Amateur Championship.
