NELSON MANDELA CHAMPIONSHIP IN DANGER OF CANCELLATION
(Reuters) - The inaugural Nelson Mandela Championship is in danger of being cancelled after the first round was postponed again today with much of the Durban Golf Club, South Africa under water after a huge overnight thunderstorm.
European Tour regulations state that a tournament must complete at least 36 holes to avoid cancellation and the prospects of further rain in Durban mean the European Tour 2013 season-opener is in doubt after a second day of no play.
Which means that a lot of golfers and their caddies have spent a lot of money getting themselves down to South Africa and staying in hotels, etc - outlay which will have to be written off.
