MORE WRIGHT STUFF FOR SCOTS AS THEY TAKE THREE-SHOT LEAD IN PORTUGAL
By COLIN FARQUHARSON Colin@scottishgolfview.com Scotland have jumped into a three-shot lead at the halfway stage of the PGAs of Europe international team championship at Palmares Golf Resort on Portugal's Algarve. The Scots' low-scoring hero was against West Linton's Welshman, Gareth Wright, the Glenmuir club professional champion. He followed up his first-day four-under-par 68 with a 69 despite starting with a bogey 5. It turned out to be the only blemish on his card. Wright covered the remaining 17 holes in four under par with birdies at the fifth, 10th, 15th and 16th.] David Patrick (Elie Sports Club) and David Orr (Mearns Castle) both returned solid par-matching 72s for Scotland to post a best two-from-three day's total of 141, four shots inferior to their first-round total but good enough to go clear with a 10-under-par 278 tally. England, joint leaders at the start of the day, could manage only a second-round total of 144 for a 281 36-hole aggregate. Stuart Little had their best score of 71 and team-mates Craig Slave and Steve Parry both reutrned 73s.Holland are third on 286, five adrift of England with defending champions France, nine shots off Scotland's hot pace on 287.
