So why don't they play the Open over SIX rounds?
Topic for debate ... if anyone wants to agree or disagree with me, writes Colin Farquharson.
If SIX rounds is thought to be essential for the European Tour Final Qualifying School - and the US PGA Tour School as well - why aren't the Open and the other Majors played over six rounds?
Surely, the same line of thinking should apply. If six rounds is necessary for the best players to prevail at Final Qualifying Schools ... then four rounds are not nearly enough to ensure that the best man always wins the Majors.
