Stewart Henderson leads
from Fraser Fotheringham
in wind-blown Newlands
Trophy at Lanark

Hamilton's Stewart Henderson, in the pole position, one shot ahead of Nairn teenager Fraser Fotheringham is the unexpected halfway leader at Lanark in the Newlands Trophy, the final counting event of the Scottish Golf Union Order of Merit 72-hole events.
On a day when a strong east wind was responsible for the CSS of 73 being three shots above the par, Henderson shot 74 and 69 for 143, one shot ahead of Fotheringham's 74 and 70.
Fotheringham, pictured right, lost a play-off for the North of Scotland open amateur stroke-play championship at Nairn a couple of weekends ago. He was beaten in the final of the British boys' championship last year.
Another youngster, Paul Lawrie protege Philip McLean from Peterhead is in close-up third place on 145 after scores of 76 and 69.
Scottish amateur stroke-play champion Wallace Booth (Comrie), joint leader on 72 after one round, slipped back to a 74 for 146, figuring in a triple tie for fourth place with Graham Roger (Cambuslang) and John Laurie (Cowglen) with two rounds to go.
Forbes Butterfield (Bothwell Castle), who had shared the spotlight with Booth after 18 holes, took 10 shots more for the second circuit, an 82 for 154.
Scottish champion Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan), following six rounds in three days at the Home Internationals at Muirfield, decided not to defend the Newlands Trophy he won last year when his rounds included a record-equalling 63.
Macaulay, Wallace Booth and several more of Scotland's front-line amateurs will be taking, hopefully, the first step up the ladder towards becoming tour professionals in the European Tour Qualifying School Stage 1 which tees off at Dundonald Links, The Oxfordshire and Chart Hills over the next two weeks.
In the Newlands Trophy, a total of 41 players with 36-hole aggregates of 157 or better qualified for Sunday's final two rounds.
