Spaniard Gonzalo beats Westwood
in play-off for British Masters
Last Sunday it was disappointment in the Ryder Cup for Lee Westwood, beaten in the singles. This Sunday, there was more disappointment for the Englishman when he was denied a successful defence of the Quinn Insurance British Masters at The Belfry when he lost to Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano - the man with the longest name on the European Tour - at the third hole of a play-off today.
Three shosts clear of the field with 10 holes to play to complete the regulation 72 holes, Westwood was reeled in by the Madrid golfer for them to tie.
In the sudden death play-off, after each of them had made a 10-footer to stay alive in the fading light, Westwood missed a 15-foot par putt on the next.
+Gonzalo's name is so long that it is abbrevited to "Fdez-Castano" on scoreboards and collation of scores.
