Not Nick Faldo's
fault that they
outplayed us
- Sergio Garcia

Sergio Garcia, leading the field going into the final round of this week's US PGA Tour event, has taken the opportunity at one of his Press Conferences to defend Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo after the six-time major winner was criticised in the wake of Europe's defeat at Valhalla.
"I think it's horrendous," Garcia said. "Fortunately, it happens only once every two years in golf, but it happens in football back at home.
"When a team loses, it's always the coach's fault. They never pick on the players like they should or give enough credit to the other team like they should."
He added: "Last week the European team didn't play badly. They just got outplayed by the American team. On Sunday, there were two 29s on the front nine.
"I mean that happens probably four or five times a year. Two 29s on the same day, that's amazing.
"That's what people should focus on, not if Nick did that or Nick didn't do that."
Garcia is the first to admit that his form was not up the scratch. He, Padraig Harrington and Lee Westwood all failed to win a match all week.
Faldo was criticised for his decision to sit Garcia and Westwood out of the Saturday morning foursomes and his playing order in the final day singles.
Ian Poulter, Westwood and Harrington were in the last three matches when Europe started the day two points down and needed to post some early victories.
Some of Faldo's comments during his official speeches were also deemed less than appropriate but Garcia said: "He did the best he could as captain, and then it comes down to us. If the guys we play against play better than us, there's nothing we can do."
