DUFF BEATS SCOTTISH CHAMPION
Newmachar's John Duff scored a notable one-hole win over Scottish amateur champion Callum Macaulay, playing over his home course at Tulliallan, but it was not enough to prevent a comprehensive 7-2 victory by Clackmannan over North-east in the final series of Group C qualifying matches.
The home team took the foursomes 3-0 and North-east's only other winner apart from John Duff was Anthony Bews (Murcar Links) who beat John Maxwell by one hole.

LOTHIANS FAIL TO QUALIFY
Area team championship semi-finals without Lothians being one of the four qualifiers is a rare event but that's the case this year. The title-holders were beaten 5 1/2-3 1/2 at a home venue today, Prestonfield. Renfrewshire took the foursomes 2-1 with wins by Matt and Ronnie Clark, and Andrew Farmer and Murdo Carmichael.
Renfreshire also shaded the singles 3 1/2-2 1/2 with wins by Matt Clark, Mudro Carmichael, Gordon Stevenson and a halved match by Ronnie Clark to complete their Group C programme with three wins out of three.
