Glenbervie's Richard Johnston wins East
of Scotland's Ramsay Trophy

The first Alliance outing of the 2008 - 2009 season was played today at Uphall Golf Club, with 90 members competing.
Gordon Law and the members of staff at Uphall gave us a warm welcome.
Comments about the course were very good, the general consensus being that the greens were good and the rough a bit punishing in places. So if you kept out of the rough and putted well, you had a chance of having a good score.
The overall winner of the Ramsay Trophy was Richard Johnston from Glenbervie.
Early starters Paul Arthur (King's Acre) and Peter Mitchell (Hermitage) set the pace in the scratch section with fine two under par scores of 67.
Their scores weren't bettered until Kenny Glen (Royal Musselburgh) shot 65, later in the day, which included five birdies and one bogey. Things weren't finished there however, in the final match Richard Johnston (Glenbervie) went one better, shooting 64. Richard had five birdies (2nd, 6th, 12th, 13th and 17th).
In the handicap section Willie Laing was the long time leader with a net 66. Jimmy Rankeillor from Baberton, out in match number twenty eight, shot 65 and was only just pipped at the post by Richard Johnston with 64 - 1 = 63.
Next week we're heading to Bathgate to play for the Gallacher Trophy. Stuart Callan, the members of Bathgate and I will look forward to seeing you then.
