Chris Doak top Scot, five shots
behind leader Hoey in Holland
From Michael Gibbons, Challenge Tour Press Officer
Chris Doak will attempt to overhaul a five-stroke deficit in the final round of the Dutch Futures presented by Royal Bank of Scotland to win the biggest pay cheque (€22,400 ) of his professional career.
Doak, the current Tartan Tour Number One after a year of domination on Scotland’s National Tour, posted a third round 70 for a five under par aggregate of 211 to trail the leader, Ulsterman Michael Hoey, by five strokes at the Challenge Tour event on the outskirts of Amsterdam.
While Doak attempts to make up five shots on the lead, his countryman, Andrew McArthur, will be looking to make up a potentially tantalising seven shots on Hoey, safe in the knowledge that, if he does it, the €22,400 on offer for first prize would almost certainly guarantee him a place on the 2009 European Tour as one of the Challenge Tour’s top 20 players of 2008.
Hoey, winner of the British amateur championship at Prestwick in 2001, has scored 69, 69 and 68 for a 10-under-par tally of 206. He leads by one shot from English left-hander Chris Gane (71-66-70).
