Celtic Pro Tour reschedules
closing events for 2008
The Celtic Pro Tour has rearranged its remaining events after the poor summer weather played havoc with the tour’s schedule.
The summer saw many golf tournaments across Wales postponed or even cancelled. As a result, many of the remaining Celtic Pro Tour events now clash with re-scheduled events from the PGA and other development tours across the rest of the UK
Celtic Pro Tour director, Rhydian Thomas said: “It’s been a particularly frustrating year for everyone really. The weather has been absolutely appalling, so some events have been cancelled due to the courses being waterlogged. The credit crunch has hit everyone also, including the golfers, so it’s been a testing time, as fields have been small.”
Consequently, there are now only three events remaining on the revised 2008 season schedule. They are:
October13, 14 and 15 - South East of Ireland Open at Dungarvan, West Waterford and Gold Coast golf clubs (54 holes);
October 20 and 21 - West Wales Classic at Ashburnham (36 holes);
October 27, 28 and 29 - Tour Championship at St Pierre (54 holes).
Event organiser, Roger Maliphant said: “These final three events give the professionals an opportunity to continue playing late in the season, when there is nothing else available. Some of them will have qualified for the next stage of the European Tour Qualifying School, so these events will offer them crucial competition before that next Q School event.”
Prize funds will vary, depending on the numbers entering, but the top 10 in each field will be paid, as long as there are 40 professional players entering 36-hole events and 48 entering the 54-hole event, with first prizes of £2,000 and £3,000 respectively.
The prize fund breakdown will be altered on a pro-rata basis if the field is smaller. The leading amateur in each event will receive a voucher.
Only players who have joined as members or have entered at least one event, may enter the Tour Championship at St Pierre.
Entry to the Ashburnham event is £149 for professionals and £99 for amateurs.
Entry to the Tour Championship and the Irish event will each be £199 for professionals and £149 for amateurs
Players interested in entering any of the events, should contact tour director Rhydian Thomas on 07861 686568 or event organiser Roger Maliphant on 07815 456689 or email rhyd@treorchy.fsbusiness.co.uk or info@teamsporttravel.co.uk to register.
