Booth, Dear and Macaulay are
Scots trio for Eisenhower Trophy

PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY SCOTTISH GOLF UNION
Wallace Booth (Comrie), Gavin Dear (Murrayshall) and Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan) will carry the Saltire at the Eisenhower Trophy, otherwise known as the World Amateur Team Championship next month (16-19 October).
Hosted this year at the Royal Adelaide Golf Club, only the second time the event has been hosted in Australia since the 72 hole tournament commenced back in 1958, the tartan trio will hope to improve on the sixth place finish by their Scottish counterparts back in 2006 in Stellenbosch.
Macaulay, the Allied Surveyors Scottish Amateur Champion and number one Scottish amateur in 2007,is joined by his GB & I team mate Wallace Booth who enjoyed a 100% unbeaten record in the St Andrews Trophy as the two golfers played an instrumental role in their team’s victory over the Continent of Europe side.
Booth enjoyed an early season boost when he clinched the Bidwells Scottish Stroke Play Championship, his first national men’s title. Strong finishes at the St Andrews Links Trophy and Sutherland Chalice earned the Perthshire powerhouse selection to the European Team Championship, where he finished as the top individual performer in the stroke-play qualifying in a strong international field.
His performance saw Booth pip Tennant Cup winner Macaulay into second place. Booth cemented his place in the team announced today after winning the recent Newlands Trophy.
Fellow Perthshire player Dear has meanwhile been propelled into the team by an exceptional performance in the navy blue jersey when he was the leading Scottish performer at the recent Home Internationals at Muirfield.
As well as helping Scotland to claim runners-up spot there, he has put in a string of consistent performances on the national and international circuit this summer. Those included runner up finishes in the Craigmillar Park Open and Tennant Cup as well as pulling off a creditable sixth place at the European Amateur Championships last month.
The team will be captained by the experienced George Crawford, making his last trip to a tournament as the Scotland Team Captain.
Commenting on the team, Crawford, who has helped to steer Scotland to a number of victories during his captaincy said,“We have selected players that have consistently proven themselves throughout the year, demonstrated by their solid performances and results.
“The trio has experience of competing and excelling at big events and the Eisenhower Trophy provides them with their biggest event yet.”
The players will head out to Australia ahead of the competition to acclimatise to the conditions and familiarise themselves with the course.
