Tain professional in Scottish PGA
top 50 in first full year

BY ROBIN WILSON
Tain professional, Stuart Morrison has, in his first full year at the club, played himself into the top 50 of the Scottish Region Professional Golfer Association's Order of Merit.
From results and earnings on the Tartan Tour events he has competed in he presently holds 44th place. In addition to the Tartan Tour Morrison has also spread the name of Tain in Europe which must be good for the club.
Just recently he and four amateur pals from the Central Belt returned from the Brittany area of France with the first scratch team prize in a golf golf tournament. Part of a Celtic Nations Festival golf was introduced into the curriculum several years ago and Stuart and his friends have been regular attenders.
Morrison's team of David Buchanan (Falkirk Tryst), Grant Hill (The Burgess) and Murdo Macleod (Glenbervie) were one of four Scottish, teams taking part. Other teams with Celtic backgrounds came from Ireland (3) Wales (2), Cornwall, Isle of Mann and Spain and with the French teams a total of 62 overall.
On day one the Tain led team played the Ploemeur Ocean golf links and scored a better ball of six under par for second place. Morrison's two under par 71 leading the individual returns. On day two they moved inland to Val Quevin where their eight under par team card lifted elevated them them to first place at fourteen under par. Morrison's second individual professional scores 76 left him third amongst his fellow professionals.
He said afterwards “This is the eleventh year we have made the trip and this year the weather was in our favour and typically Scottish, wind and rain”
