Rocca has a head for heights, wins
Slaley Hall rooftop challenge
PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY PGA
Costantino Rocca displayed a head for heights to win a charity rooftop challenge at Slaley Hall on the eve of the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship.
The Italian beat Sam Torrance, Carl Mason and Gordon Brand Junior in a nearest the pin contest from the roof of Slaley Hall.
The quartet were tasked with aiming at the 18th green from a specially constructed teeing platform that sat between two turrets of the Edwardian Slaley Hall hotel.
Rocca won £1,000 for charity by hitting a knock-down nine iron from 127 yards to inside 2 feet. The former Ryder Cup player donated the money to Cystic Fibrosis with a further £500 donated by the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship to the Golf Foundation.
‘This was a great fun event,” said Rocca. “I have never hit a ball from the roof, but it was a lot of fun and I am delighted to have raised money for charity.”
Torrance added: “I enjoy this event and it is good to be back in the North-east of England. It is always good to get involved with charity events and it is a good way to keep in a relaxed frame of mind before the main event starts.”
The event was held to launch the De Vere Collection Seniors PGA Championship which begins tomorrow.
