Carnegie Shield qualifier
By ROBIN WILSON
Following his two under par first round 68 on Tuesday at his first look of the course, Germany- based Dane, Jorg Peter Paulus found Royal Dornoch' s par-3 defences and only negotiated one of the four holes with a par result in the Carnegie Shield tournament.
However, fnishing his round with two birdie 3S enabled him to sign off for 72 (37-35) and begin the match-play rounds as the leading qualifier with a level par total of 140.
Round of the day came from American visitor George Owens who shot his age, 70, for second place on the same 36 hole total of 142 as Ian Rennie who for the second year won the silver medal as leading local qualifier.
American Andrew Biggadike is the only former winner in the top eight after following his opening 75 with the second best card of the day, a 68 for 143 and fourth place.
