GRAHAM FOX WINS RAIN-HIT YOUNG
PROS' EVENT AT SHOTTS

East Kilbride's Graham Fox won the North Lanarkshire Council/Pro Guide Young Professionals' 54-hole tournament after a "man-the-pumps" effort by Scottish PGA tournament director Glen McPhee and his staff prevented the Shotts Golf Club greens from becoming flooded.
The area was hit by sustained torrential rain during the afternoon but with Glen and his men squeejeeing like mad on and off there was no suspension of play and the tournament was completed.
"It was touch and go near the end when we had to work really hard to keep the greens playable for the last six groups on the course. But we made it," said Glen.
Fox strung together rounds of 69, 67 and 71 for a three-under-par total of 207 which won him the £880 first prize by three shots.
Runner-up was former Welsh amateur international Gareth Wright (West Linton) wih 77, 66 and 67 for level par 210. He earned £453.
Two players shared third place on 213 - former Scottish boys champion Lee Harper (Archerfield Links) and Craig Matheson (Falkirk Tryst). They both earned £453.
Overnight leader Iain Colquhoun (Dundonald Links) dropped out of contention with a second-round 78. A closing 70 pulled him back up to a final placing of joint eighth on six-over 216.
