on back of a birdie bonanza

Anglo-Scot Bill Longmuir will celebrate with drinks on close friend Ian Woosnam’s boat after sailing to victory at the DGM Barbados Open on the European Seniors Tour.
A birdie blitz on the back nine helped Longmuir, who was six shots off the lead after the first day, blow away a high-class field to register his first victory since the Midas English Seniors Open last August.
Despite wet and windy conditions at Royal Westmoreland, the Scot made no fewer than seven birdies - including five in a row from the 13th hole – in a flawless round of golf.
His aggregate score of 10-under-par 206 was enough to see off the English challenge of Bob Cameron and Nick Job, who finished three and four shots behind respectively.
Joint overnight leader Delroy Cambridge of Jamaica was a further shot back, while Woosnam – who owns a home and has a catamaran moored on the Caribbean island – finished his maiden Seniors Tour event on four-under-par 212, after a final round of 71.
The Welshman was one of the first to congratulate Longmuir, who automatically shot to the top of the Order of Merit with his victory – the seventh of his Seniors Tour career.
Longmuir said: “Luckily I’m not flying back to England until Tuesday, so I’m sure there will be a few drinks sunk between now and then. Hopefully Woosie will join me – I’m sure he won’t need much persuading.”
